"What Keeps DHS Awake @ Night? The Public Hasn't A Clue"

"America is under cyber attack. We are beginning to act but not quick enough and not forcefully enough," warned Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) testifying on Capital Hill at the Senate Judiciary Committee this week.

That's right, people. "The threats to our critical infrastructure, like power and water treatment companies, are real and the public doesn't have a clue how bad it is," reports CBN.

It appears Russian hackers have struck again, targeting conservative think tanks based in Washington, D.C. This latest attack prompted the alarmed lawmakers to demand the public, as well as privately- owned companies to be informed of this growing danger.

The problem? 90% of all critical infrastructure in the U.S. is privately-owned, and largely unprotected.

According to Homeland Security:
"Cyber space and its underlying infrastructure are vulnerable to a wide range of risk stemming from both physical and cyber threats and hazards. Sophisticated cyber actors and nation-states exploit vulnerabilities to steal information and money and are developing capabilities to disrupt, destroy, or threaten the delivery of essential services:

  • Electricity
  • Water supply
  • Dams
  • Nuclear reactors
  • Financial services
  • (et cetera, et cetera)
"Critical infrastructure describes the physical and cyber systems and assets that are so vital to the United States that their incapacity or destruction would have a debilitating impact on our physical or economic security or public health or safety.
"Our daily life, economic vitality, and national security depend on a stable, safe, and resilient cyberspace."
According to the FBI and DHS, Russian government cyber actors have been targeting U.S. critical infrastructure sectors including; energy, nuclear and commercial facilities since at least March, 2016.

So why are lawmakers only now demanding the public be informed?

A wise man once said: "Agencies responsible for protecting our physical infrastructure at the local, state and federal level aren't spending nearly enough on cyber security given how critical things like power, roads and clean water are to our society." -- Ellis Talton, StateOf
"Sensible people will see trouble coming and avoid it, but an unthinking person will walk right into it and regret it later" Proverbs 22:3.
