Iran / Israel & Scripture: What's Next?

 

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a national address, asserted that attacks by the U.S. and Israel on Iran will ultimately bring peace.

If only it were that simple.

Bible prophecy addresses peace in the Middle East primarily in the context of end-times events, focusing on (you guessed it!) ...Israel. And while hundreds of passages point to a future of ultimate peace, it won't come until after the world experiences the worst seven years in human history.

Of course, there are several passages that point to a future period of apparent peace and security for Israel, but unfortunately, this will be a temporary or "pseudo peace" leading to the war of Gog and Magog.

This war is detailed in Ezekiel 38-39, where Israel is described as dwelling in "unwalled villages, at rest and secure" before a massive invasion from the north.

This invasion will be conducted by Iran (aka Persia) and a coalition of nations, including Russia, Libya and Turkey. It will most likely involve nuclear or chemical weapons.

Most scholars place this war just before or early in the Tribulation period, during a time of perceived peace that makes Israel vulnerable. 

So, is BiBi Netanyahu correct in his belief that current events will ultimately bring peace?

No. But it could be the precursor that ultimately ushers in the "pseudo peace."

"Two Prophectic Time Markers You Need To Know"

Rumor has it Israel is about to strike the Iranian nuclear facilities. Will they? Who knows--we've heard that song before.

We do know from Bible prophecy that Iran, Russia & Turkey (among others) will eventually launch a surprise attack against Israel that will probably involve either nuclear or biological weapons.

But because so few mainline churches teach on Bible prophecy, many have no idea how far along the prophetic timeline we have come.

Prophecy expert Bill Salus contends God's calendar of endtime events has a definite beginning--the rebirth of the nation of Israel--and another major sign post signaling we are getting close to the end.

"The re-establishment of Israel on May 14, 1948 (77 years ago) is when the world's hour glass made its final turn," Salus declares.

"The Magog invasion of  Israel (see Ezekiel 38-39), is the other major prophetic marker for this generation to consider. Ezekiel 38:1-39:20 contains forty-three verses of some of the most consolidated and descriptive prophetic information found anywhere within the Bible. The reader of these passages doesn't need to be a Bible scholar, rocket scientist, or even a believer to glean a relatively detailed understanding of this forthcoming prophecy. By interpreting these verses literally the reader is made aware of the:

• Timing of the event- (in the endtimes) Ezekeil 38:8,16
• Identities of the invading coalition- (Russia, Turkey, Iran, etc.) Ezekiel 38:1-5
• Motivation for the invasion of Israel- (to plunder Israel) Ezekiel 38:12-13
• Supernatural defeat of the invaders- (through earthquakes, pestilence, flooding rains and great hailstones) Ezekiel 38:18-23"

Salus places this invasion just before the 7 years of tribulation, but after the Rapture of the Church.

So, how far along the prophetic timeline are we?

According to Amir Tsarfati of Behold Israel, the Magog coalition of Ezekiel 38 is being formed before our very eyes and while that doesn't necessarily mean they will attack Israel tomorrow, it's a pretty good bet we are in the general time frame.

According to Bill Salus, when they do attack, it will officially herald the 'final stage' of the endtimes prophetic timeline.

"When is The War of Ezekiel 38?"

With the horrific news coming out of Israel, many are jumping to the conclusion that the infamous war of Gog & Magog must be right around the corner.

Why? Because the war detailed in Ezekiel 38 will be a multi-pronged, surprise attack that will catch Israel completly off guard. 

Impossible? Apparently not. Saturday's attack had many of the same elements the Ezekiel war will have, so the comparison is understandable, though, Ezekiel's war will be many magnitudes worse.

There are a variety of opinions on just when Ezekiel's conflict will happen. Some place it before the 7-year tribulation; others believe it will occur at the midpoint after the first 3-1/2 years. Still others maintain it's a part of the Armageddon scenario.

And some believe there will be a war with Israel's immediate neighbors first as Psalm 83 seems to suggest.

While the precise timing of Ezekiel's prophecy is unknown, he did leave us a number of clues. For instance:

• It will happen in the 'latter years', after the final restoration of the Jews to the Land (fulfilled in 1948), but before their spiritual rebirth (predicted in Ez.37).
• The attack will come from a coalition of nations including an instigator from 'the far North' of Israel. (Though Russia is not mentioned by name, it lies directly north of Israel)
• Persia (present day Iran), Ethiopia and Libya are all specifically included in the list of coalition troops.

The prophecy is quite long, covering two complete chapters and almost certainly predicts this war will be nuclear. Ez. 39:11-16 details the clean-up and burial procedures that follow the battle and they sound as if they come straight from a nuclear protocol manual.

So how close are these events? We don't know, but reports out of Israel indicate that both Iranian and Russian technology was used in Saturday's attack. 

It's possible that the two wars are completley unrelated... but we doubt it. The war of Gog and Magog may not be right around the corner...but it definitely could be.
