"New Bible Code?"

It's baaaaack...the Bible Code, made famous by Michael Drosnin's book with that title, has been recycled, repackaged and renamed "The Torah Codes" in a new documentary produced by director Richard Shaw.

Proponents claim secret messages supposedly encoded within the Hebrew text of the Torah (the first 5 books of the Old Testament) are revealed by a phenomenon known as Equidistant Letter Sequences (ELS).

Throughout history, Jewish scholars have attempted to find hidden or coded messages within the Bible's text. But with the advent of computers? Let's just say things have gone into overdrive. There's no end of amazing "secret messages" and the controversy (not to mention media-hype) that goes with them. Dangerous? Maybe. Nevertheless, authentic "Bible codes" are sprinkled throughout Scripture.For instance, the very first genealogy in Genesis is nothing short of dramatic evidence of supernatural design.

Based on the Hebrew roots of these ten names, we find the New Testament Gospel "hiding" in the first Old Testament book, Genesis 5:1-32:

• Adam = man
• Seth = appointed
• Enosh = mortal
• Cainan = sorrow
• Mahalalet = the blessed God
• Jared = shall come down
• Enoch = teaching
• Methuselah = his death shall bring
• Lamech = despairing
• Noah =  relief or comfort

Man appointed mortal sorrow, the blessed God shall come down teaching: His death shall bring (the) despairing  relief or comfort.

The book of Numbers, chapter 2 exhibits this remarkable Bible code: God instructed the ancient Israelites through His servant Moses, detailing precisely how to set up their wilderness camp. God wanted the 12 tribes arranged in four groups around the tabernacle:

• one group to the east
• one group to the west
• one group to the north
• one group to the south

Now imagine yourself in a helicopter above this camp. We've got the tabernacle in the center, surrounded by four camps stretching out in four cardinal directions. You would be looking down on the exact shape of a cross--hundreds of years before Christ!
