"ISIS: Ancient Prophecy About to Be Fulfilled"

An ancient Islamic prophecy is fueling ISIS militants into ever greater acts of terrorism.

The prophecy, a 1300-year old hadith (which is a report of the teachings and sayings of the prophet Mohammad) predicts a battle in Syria between an Islamic army and an 'infidel horde' from Rome.

Apparently, this 'horde' will be flying 80 banners as they take on a Muslim army in the Syrian town of Dabiq, ushering in the 'malahim' or the apocalypse.

Who wins? The Muslims, of course.

This prophecy is a fundamental part of ISIS ideology, a huge recruitment tool and serves to convince jihadists they're on the 'cusp of history'.

Social media is buzzing with ISIS supporters comparing recent events (especially in Syria) to the prophecy and proclaiming the 'malahim' is coming.

ISIS fighters conquered Dabiq in 2014 which "proved" the prophecy's validity (at least in their eyes) and now they are certain The End is near.

"The U.S. and its allies will descend on Syria once they see that the air campaign has failed. That is a promise by God and His Messenger," ISIS fanatics tweeted back in 2014.

"The U.S. and its allies?" What happened to Rome? Their prophecy said the "horde" would be Roman.

Seems ISIS adjusts its prophecies to fit whatever facts on the ground seem to indicate. ISIS has now given up on--or amended--the idea that America is "Rome" in their prophecy.

So, who has ISIS adopted as their "Rome" this year? Turkey (...or was that Iran?)

A wise man once said: "The inevitable defeat of the Islamic State at Dabiq, should it ever confront "Rome", would argue against the prophecy's applicability. But in the apocalyptic imagination, inconvenient facts rarely impede the glorious march to the end of the world." -- William McCants, Senior Fellow, Foreign Policy Center for Middle East Policy

"If the prophet speaks in the LORD's name but his prediction does not happen or come true, you will know that the LORD did not give that message. That prophet has spoken without My authority and need not be feared"  Deuteronomy 18-22.
